The Prodigal Family at Thanksgiving

Four generations, all in one cozy farmhouse on a cold, snowy, weekend in Michigan. Cold outside warm inside. Bleak outside bright and inviting inside. Snow on the ground, smoke spiraling up from the chimney, spreading its smell through the surrounding woods. From the soft clink of drinking cups and coffee mugs to the roaring and boisterous laughter from way down deep in the heart.
We have just returned from another memorable Thanksgiving with our Hotchkiss clan up in Michigan. I sometimes refer to them as the Prodigal Family because they, like our Jesus, are recklessly spendthrift and lavishly abundant in giving not only in a gastronomical sense or a material sense, but most importantly in a spiritual sense, in a Love sense.
Growing up as a boy, we used to spend Summers out in the country at either of my grandparents’ plantations; these were some of the best times of my childhood, despite the calluses on my city-boy hands from driving cattle and helping to fix tractors. And now, being with my wife's family, my family, at their farmhouse, is like reliving my childhood: the love, the laughter, the stories, the love, the traditions, the food, the smells, and always.... the love.
Grandpa showed his expertise at lulling Aydon to sleep. Grandma the perfect hostess: love and class rolled up in one. Sun showed us why she should be running her own restaurant, Willard shared his heart for the Kingdom and demonstrated his down to earth ideas for energy self-reliance. Hubert taught me a thing or two about his vocation and got my mind whirring. Jill loved on us like we were long lost puppies and just made us feel warm and at home.
Not all of the family could be with us: Angela, Austin, the Andrea's, the Beth's, Lynn & Jenny May. But they were with us, because we are all connected, we are all family. Our pasts are intertwined, our present a gift, and our futures inseparable.
For some this Thanksgiving, love ones were elsewhere, not yet born, or have left this earthly plane. But wherever we all are, we give Thanks for God's undying love.
Our family gives Thanks for you.
Now go out there and live and love like the Hotchkiss’s: Prodigal In Love.
Blessings,
Miles, Amy, Ashley, Austin, Abby, Aydon.

When you're down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest nights.
You just call out my name,
And you know where ever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah
To see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah.
You've got a friend.
If the sky above you
should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
And soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you got to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah.
Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.
You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Don't you know that,
Winter, spring,summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend?
You've got a friend.

This song by James Taylor, is the perfect picture of the relationship I have with my older Brother, Odel, whose birthday is this month. Odel is 5 years older than me. Are we brothers by womb? You may never know and it is not important. What is important is that we are Brothers by Spirit, souls brought together for Divine reasons. Our views on many things, from the spiritual to the physical, have merged and diverged and undulated over the decades that we have been blessed with each other. But my Brother's unfailing love has never ceased to be actively present in my life. Any friend of mine, is a friend of my Brother, and any enemy of mine is my Brother's enemy. He stands between me and all who would seek to harm me.
When he was in the States attending UF, he paid for me to move from the Caribbean to live with him and he supported me through high school. We agreed and sometimes disagreed, but He was always fully present in my life.
I am now a husband & father, but no matter where I am, no matter how far apart we live, if I call my Brother, he will be with me before the day breaks or the night falls: no questions asked, no matter what or why. My Brother fans his Divine spark into a flame that engulfs my life. My wife Amy has the same unfailing Love towards her siblings. I guess I married my brother?!
Our parents fanned the Divine spark in both of us. Our parents taught us to be there for each other no matter what; next to John 3:16, that was their most frequent sermon to us. Our parents taught us that we are forever a part of each other's first ministry. My parents taught us not just to teach Jesus to each other but most of all, to live the Love of Jesus to each other. My parents taught us to be present in each other's lives no matter what. Our parents taught us to be fiercily loyal. Our parents taught us that it is not our perfection that makes us Brothers. Thanks mom and dad, for imprinting Odel and I into each other’s hearts and lives, for keeping us Brothers; as you've said, this is a parent's greatest legacy. Thanks, Brother for living and Loving your calling in my life. You've got a friend. Happy Birthday!
Love Always,
Miles, Amy, Ashley, Austin, Abby, Aydon

A beautiful Autumn weekend.

On the road again...
This passed weekend we enjoyed a trip to the Blue Ridge: one of our favorite places...

Our family has many wonderful conversations about what it must have been like for our Abba Daddy when He created this beautiful world. Can you imagine what the Garden in Eden must have looked like?
It is so refreshing to have the freedom to be child like and enjoy the world with the innocence and joy of a child.

Take Back Your Church Group

Posted by Neugier

For information about your 501c3 State Church and how you and your pastor can take your Church group back for God, I recommend that you read "In Caesar's Grip" by Peter Kershaw, and also that you read through this website.... http://hushmoney.org ....and share this information with your pastor. Be forewarned: most pastors have been conditioned to be scared of the IRS, so don't expect too much. Just sow the seed of Truth.
By the way, for you licensed pastors: A license is legally defined as, "Consent given, to engage in an activity which is otherwise unlawful." What this means is that when someone applies for a ministerial license they are agreeing that it is illegal in this country to preach the gospel unless you have written permission from a secular government. When you become a government-licensed minister, you automatically give up your right to free speech. When your Church group becomes 501c3, everyone in your Church group loses their right to free speech.
Please ask your Bible College to educate their students on the issues of Law which affect the Church!
Blessings.
Miles
