Aloha Friday!

Friday, 29 August 2008

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought on Fridays I would take it easy on posting too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you would like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave the link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participates! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

This weeks question:

  • If you could have a luncheon with any three people (real of fictitious/ from any time period, dead or alive) , which three people would you choose and why?

I am looking forward to reading your answers and meeting you!

Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend!

With school back in session and my husband facing a medical situation for which we have no answer at this time; I thought I would share an interesting fact or two on Reptiles along with some of my thoughts!

Smallest in the world: The Dwarf Gecko measures .6inches long and weighs just 0.00455 of an ounce.

Fastest in the world: The Costa Rican spiny-tailed iguana.
At 22miles per hour for short distances it can run almost as fast as a person!

Fact to ponder:

The same One who engineered these two reptiles and preordained them to be the smallest and the fastest in the world also created you and I. He knows the number of hairs that are on our head and has ordered our footsteps! There is NOTHING about you and I that He did not already know before time began. So my friend when we encounter those times in life that tempt us to spend unmeasured energy trying to resolve various and sundry items or details -let us simply close our eyes, take a deep breath and with our hand firmly held by our Abba Daddy, simply take the next step in this journey that we call life. And yes, LIFE really is just that simple IF we allow it to be.

Patterns and Sequencing:

Patterns and sequencing are such a crucial part of life at every stage. As a parent, I am always looking for ways to incorporate patterns and sequencing into our every day lives. One of our favorites involves the dishwasher and eating utensils. I will place a fork, knife, and spoon in their respected "places" and then hand Abby a hand full of mixed utensils with directions to sort and match them to their partners. Not only is she learning patterns and sequencing, but also the skill of listening and following directions.

What are some of the methods you use to teach basic lessons to your little ones or not so little ones?

Below are several links you may be interested in for all ages. Please be sure to share your favorite sites as well!

Fun Brain: This site is a true treasure chest for grades K-8. You will just have to visit the site to see what I mean. It is amazing!

LINKS Learning: Just like the letters in our alphabet teach us how to speak, read, and write; so math is a language of its own which teaches us a language of patterns and symbols. I personally have learned a lot from this site!

AAA Math: Basic Math Skills, Unlimited Interactive Practice, Explanations and Examples, Challenge Games - Be sure to scroll all the way down this page and explore the site in general. At first glance I was not impressed but once I explored some I really like this site!

Thanks to Jen, this is my first Aloha Friday!

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought on Fridays I would take it easy on posting too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

Now on to my question of the week:

You only have 24hrs. left to live, what will you do with them?

Here is my answer (with links) to Jen's question:

Go to Louis Vuitton and search for ... "Aubepine Flat Sandal In Calf Leather" and "Carnet de Voyage"

Two Tips for Tuesday/Cookies for Breakfast!

Tuesday, 19 August 2008
Posted by Neugier

Here are two tips that are both time and cost effective as well as physically and financially healthy!

Two Tips:

1. Customized Grocery Shopping.

We shop once a week for exactly what we need and with few exceptions, our grocery bill is always withing $2 or $3 of the same amount every week. And every week we test drive at least 3 new recipes; so no, we are not always purchasing the same items.

Our list makes its home on the side of the refrigerator and as an item is finished it gets added to the list as do the necessary items for the coming weeks recipes.

2. Healthy, Quick and Sweet!

Would you like a quick and healthy breakfast you can just grab and run! Look no further!

We make these on Friday for the week to come. They can also be frozen ahead. (Ideal for a road trip)

Protein
Oatmeal Raisin Cookies!

Directions:
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup raisins
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oatmeal
1/2 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped (optional)
+ Whey Protein 3 scoops (60 grams) (good for 3dz.)

*Be sure to watch your first batch - it may not take quite as long as usual.

There are only 24 hrs. in every day and if you are like me, you are always looking for ways to maximize every moment. So, please share your tips!
Leave your link and tip in the comment section, or comment on your own blog and let me know and I will reference your tip/blog.

This past week was a good week. Aren't they all?! :D

Of special interest:

Ashley~Congratulations go to our oldest daughter Ashley! She is studying very hard for an upcoming test and just this morning she completed her second Math Text Book in 3 weeks. This last one was 720 pages and she finished it in 11 days! You Go Girl!!!
AND, she keeps up with the rest of life at the same time! This amazing person is my daughter!!!

Abby~ Coloring a picture for Grandma Grandpa and learning all about addressing letters.

Aydon~ Aydon is growing so quickly! Already he helps clean up his toys, climbs the stairs (his first mountain?) and is learning his ABCs! Here he is playing with Lu.

Papai~Papai takes my breathe away more and more every day. It is such a pleasure to be one with my best friend on this journey we call life. He is a daily example of the person each one of us can choose to be: perfect in heart and therefore constantly growing and improving.

An excellent person, best friend, husband, father, provider, son, etc.

I never dreamed I would marry into a "computer" family! :D
But alas we are a keyboard family!

You have been Tagged.

I have been tagged by Bea for 6 random things about myself!

1. When I eat Oreo's I take them apart and eat the middle part first! (Why do parents usually tell their children they can't do this? I taught mine to! :D

2. I "live" by list! List for me are like a road map through my week. However, I am not bound to my list. When and as needed I make frequent "detours". And to give credit where credit is due, I must say a very grateful Thank you to my dear husband for this. When we were first married, I could not "function" if everything was not done on "time".ie. dinner, dishes, then family. My husband has taught me that I can relax and put myself and my family first without being lazy or dirty etc. and yes, things still get done on time only now it is our time!

3. I hang plaque's and photos in our closet that we like but that do not "fit" anywhere else! Just like Firegirl.

4. I do NOT like clutter. Therefore I go through every room in the house on average every 3 to 4 months and make a follow up call to Goodwill's Pickup service!

5. I use only non.toxic personal and home care products. They clean better than commercial grade cleaners and they are more cost effective! If you are interested in knowing why or how ask me.

6. Tandem jumping is on my Buckett List!

Tag you are it!

Ashley-she has the most unique blog. I reallly like her poetry & check out her store!
Jen-check out her Tried & True Tuesday for some great recipes.
Kelsey-you will laugh till you cry reading K's blog!
Renaissance Man-an "out of the box" look at life and the things you may have been taught were facts of life.
Sandy- amazing photos, inspiration and a welcome "bright spot" to any day.
YOU!- if you would like to join in, please leave me a comment and I will link to your site.

The Rules:

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules to your blog.
3. Write 6 random things about yourself.
4. Tag 6 people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person you have tagged know by leaving a comment on their blog.
