The Pure Enjoyment of Learning!

I am really impressed with Carson-Dellosa's Educational Material. Having been a 2nd grade teacher I was familiar with several of their 2nd grade level materials as well as their Bulletin Board Products which I really, really like. The PK-1 Dot-to-Dot Numbers 0-25 Home Workbooks are no exception. I like the way the directions are written in three very clear steps/sentences. This is a fantastic foundation for word problems.
Abby thoroughly enjoys touching and saying the numbers as well as tracing the lines with her finger and later using pencil and crayon to connect the dots. Today, we followed up our "Math" lesson with a hands on "Health" lesson by making Peanut Butter, Banana and HONEY sandwiches!

Fabulous Tip Friday!

I have been considering doing something of this nature for a while now, and just recently came across Mommies United Blog site, who has incorporated a similar idea together with a CONTEST!
Have a fabulous Friday!

Two Tips:

1. Taking a long trip with toddlers or older? Buy disposable cameras or the inexpensive digital cameras and have a special game of "I SPY" Give each child a list of items and tell them they can not take pictures of the same items. Ex. Colors, shapes, numbers, nouns, action verbs. This really is ageless.

2. Have a little one still using bottles? How do you pack their bottles in the diaper bag? I like to REUSE my plastic tea (Mt. Dew) bottles, I make up three bottles and then funnel them into the plastic bottle. I take one already made bottle. This gives me a total of 4 premade bottles and is SO much easier than mix and making while away from home.

Dry Drowning

"When I read about the 10-year-old South Carolina boy who died earlier this month from something called "dry drowning" hours after swimming -- and then walking home from the pool -- alarms went off in my head. We have a pool in our yard, and while I'm always on alert for regular old drowning, I had never heard of such a thing as the "dry" version.

Turns out there's good reason for that.

Though the term "dry drowning" has long been used to describe just what it sounds like -- drowning away from water -- its use is no longer condoned by drowning experts. One of those experts, pediatrician Deborah Mulligan of Coral Springs, Florida, says the term went out of medical vogue at the 2002 World Congress on Drowning.

"It's very confusing to the layperson to hear that term," Mulligan says. "They wonder 'What does it mean?' It gets people needlessly concerned about terminology rather than focus on steps they can take to prevent drowning in general."

In the-phenomenon-formerly-known-as-dry-drowning, a person who aspirates even a small amount of water into his lungs may experience laryngospasms, in which the larynx (windpipe) constricts to keep more water from entering his lungs. That can, even hours later, trigger respiratory arrest, which can lead to pulmonary edema, buildup of fluid in the lungs. That keeps the lungs from processing oxygen properly and can lead to cardiac arrest and brain death.

Yikes..."

A date with my best friend!

As mentioned in a previous post, our family takes turns going on dates with each other and this weekend was Mamae and Papai's Date weekend!

We went Christmas shopping! (Yes, we love to start early) We tried some fun clothes on for size, style and the enjoyment of it!! We ran several errands, bought the perfect tomato plant, relaxed at the bookstore, held hands and celebrated the miracles our Abba Daddy has given us and those that are on there way!

We had such a relaxing and wonderful time just being together, celebrating the present and planing for the future. It is such gift to be with a person that you are able to truly share your heart and self with, to laugh and pray with, and when you are blessed as I am to be on an eternal journey with said person, you are indeed most blessed. Thank you Abba Daddy and thank you My Love for choosing to be true to who You were meant to be. I love you so much!

Skyscraping News!

"NEW YORK - A Manhattan skyscraper that is home to The New York Times became the site of twin daredevil stunts Thursday, with two men scaling the 52-story office tower within a matter of hours...Robert's Web site says he has climbed more than 70 skyscrapers around the world. He was arrested in February after climbing a 42-floor building in Sao Paulo, Brazil...At moments during his ascent, the second climber appeared to slow and tire, and officers awaiting him shouted encouragements from the rooftop and even dangled a rope, which he did not take, police said..."

Lightening Strikes Twice.

The 21-year-old sprinter, Usain 'Lightening' Bolt, has claimed the title "the world's fastest man" after winning the 100 meter dash and setting new world record of 9.72 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix athletics meet last Saturday in New York.
Bolt, is from my father-in-law's hometown, Trelawny, in northern Jamaica.
Less than 1 month ago, Bolt finished within two hundredths of a second outside countryman Asafa Powell's world record of 9.74. Bolt's performance now sees Jamaica with the world's two fastest men, and the top five times in the history of the event – Powell (9.74, 9.77 three times) and Bolt (9.76).
On a night when thunderstorms and the threat of lightning forced a 45 minute disruption to the action - and that after the start of the meet was delayed for an hour - Bolt delivered the real jolt of the night.
Trelawny Rocks.
Congratulations Usain!
