Lightening Strikes Twice.
Monday, 2 June 2008The 21-year-old sprinter, Usain 'Lightening' Bolt, has claimed the title "the world's fastest man" after winning the 100 meter dash and setting new world record of 9.72 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix athletics meet last Saturday in New York.
Bolt, is from my father-in-law's hometown, Trelawny, in northern Jamaica.
Less than 1 month ago, Bolt finished within two hundredths of a second outside countryman Asafa Powell's world record of 9.74. Bolt's performance now sees Jamaica with the world's two fastest men, and the top five times in the history of the event – Powell (9.74, 9.77 three times) and Bolt (9.76).
On a night when thunderstorms and the threat of lightning forced a 45 minute disruption to the action - and that after the start of the meet was delayed for an hour - Bolt delivered the real jolt of the night.
Trelawny Rocks.
Congratulations Usain!
